Early Summer Activities

Wakes Service

The Wakes Service is in the afternoon of the Sunday nearest to the Saints Day of John the Baptist, this year it is 30th June.

The service is preceded by the crowning of the Wakes Queen which takes place by the Market House, followed by a procession to the service at St John’s.

Art Exhibition

Art work by local people is displayed in church for the three weeks from the weekend of the Wakes Service until Secret Gardens weekend.

Concerts in Church

A few concerts are held in church each year by local choirs and jazz players.

This includes a jazz evening during the first week of the art exhibition and a choral concert in the Sunday afternoon of Secret Gardens.
