The All-Age Community Service is a simple service led by our Rector or visiting church leader, with the help of members of the congregation as needed. The aim is to share the Good News of the Christian faith as well as making deeper links with groups within our community in a relaxed service they feel part of.
It is on the second Sunday of the month, alternating with the Family Service at St Mary’s – so every two months. It starts at 11.00am but there is coffee, tea or squash (with biscuits) in church from 10.30am. We usually finish with another round of refreshments in the hall after the service has ended.
It lasts 45 minutes and is based on a specific theme, such as Harvest, an Advent Carol Service, and Mothering Sunday. There are craft activities available for school-age children and a play area for preschool age.
We work closely with and involve Churchtown School where possible. Children take part in the service, reading prayers and poems and helping with any activity which illustrates the theme and talk. We usually sing modern worship songs but if there are actions to any of them only join in you would like to.
Every Service, we link to and support a specific charity, such as the local Scout Groups and Baby Basics.
It isn’t just for the children and families, although it is a service they can feel part of and enjoy. As it says it is All-Age and for anyone in the local community. Everyone is welcome.
